There is no disputing that MLB’s annual Players Weekend, which began in 2017, is extremely popular among players and fans alike. If you don’t think so, just look at the nicknames that the players themselves choose for the back of their respective jerseys for that particular Friday, Saturday and Sunday which, this year, falls on August 23, 24 and 25.
That’s the good news.
The bad news, at least for old-school baseball traditionalists, is that August 23, 24 and 25 is also the weekend when the New York Yankees will be in town to play the Dodgers in a three-game interleague series (which began in 1997) at Dodger Stadium. Such an occurrence happens only once every six years, as the NL West and AL East play each other every three years but alternate ballparks.
As such, old-schoolers who were hoping to see their beloved Dodgers (or Yankees) in their traditional home whites (or road grays) will have to wait until 2024 to see such – unless, of course, that series again happens to fall on Players Weekend.
Although Players Weekend is a novel concept, the real winner – at least from a financial standpoint – is Major League Baseball. How so, you ask? Because every major league ballpark team store and MLBShop.com make an absolute killing on replica Players Weekend jerseys, especially the more creative ones.
As they say, “Money Talks and…” well… you know the rest.
Play Ball!

It’s very possible we’ll get to watch the Dodgers and Yankees face off in their regular jerseys come October.
I like the way you think!
