ThinkBlueLA has learned from several reliable sources that Dodgers 21-year-old top-ranked catching prospect Keibert Ruiz broke a finger on his right (throwing) hand.
Although details as to the extent of the injury and how he sustained it are not known at this time, early reports are that the Dodgers number three-ranked prospect (behind infielder Gavin Lux and right-hander Dustin May) is likely out for the remainder of the season.
ThinkBlueLA will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Unfortunate for Ruiz, but he wasn’t expected to make the big-league club until next year at the earliest so he gets to enjoy an early offseason in the meantime. Will also give him extra time to really work on his body as well and he’s gonna have to if he wants to stick around long-term.
He was actually expected to be a September 1 call-up. That being said, Austin Barnes has now homered in three consecutive games with OKC.
Don’t know why the Dodgers would feel Ruiz was even worthy of a call-up this year, sounds like they overhyped him a little too much for my taste. Doesn’t matter, he’s still on pace to see major-league action next year anyway so no big deal. As for Barnes, unless they got him playing more 2B down there at OKC I’m not really interested in how he’s doing offensively. He showed Logan Forsythe-level passiveness for most of his MLB time and that just won’t cut it on this current Dodger ballclub, not when the competition for available roster spots is at an all-time high right now.
If Barnes keeps it up it improves his trade value.
