‘The Impossible Has Happened’ … Again

For those who follow ThinkBlueLA, either here or on Twitter), you have probably noticed that I have, on several occasions lately, used Vin Scully’s uber-famous quote: “In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened!” to describe what we, as Dodger fans, are witnessing with the 2019 Los Angeles Dodgers. But the simple truth is that we are witnessing the impossible unfolding before our very eyes on a nightly (or daily, in the event of a day game) basis.

Don’t believe it? Check this out following Cody Bellinger‘s monster 442-foot walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning on Wednesday night in front of a sold out Dodger Stadium crowd of 53,327:

Impossible indeed.

…or so we thought.

In case you didn’t notice that 1955 thing, it is very significant. The 1955 Dodgers, then in Brooklyn, went on to win the 1955 World Series – the first in their then 72-year franchise history.

Bellinger’s walk-off blast on Tuesday night was the Dodgers fifth consecutive walk-off win at Dodger Stadium, prompting Dodgers manager to tell reporters after the game:

“I love the result and appreciate the drama, but we just don’t feel like we’re out of it … get to the point where you expect to win. You play through eight and you expect a walk-off. We just wonder who’s going to be the next hero, and tonight it was Cody’s night. That’s why he’s an MVP.”

If ever there were a no-doubter, this would be it – a 442-footer that landed two-thirds of the way up the Right Field Pavilion in right-center field at Dodger Stadium.

Improbable?

Absolutely.

Impossible?

“…the impossible has happened!” … again.

Play Ball!

  1. It’s hard for me to put into words, to describe how exciting this is to me to watch the Dodgers perform as they are today. This, beyond any doubt, is an outstanding team. This is one of the best in baseball.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see them perform like this in OCTOBER?

That was a heck of a 2-game series Bellinger had against Arizona. Walked off the first game on a bases-loaded walk, then turns around and walks it off in extras on a titanic blast to right CF last night. Team MVP showing he can get it done in so many ways this season. He just looked so chill at the plate throughout last night’s game, I think that bases-loaded walk that won the game the other night finally settled him down after he was pressing a little too much with the bat on that last road trip.

So he breaks the all-time Dodger HR record for most before the break which was held by both Duke Snider and Gil Hodges (good company to be in, truthfully), might not be done yet with four more games to go…
    🙂

Kenley has to go!! How does he look into the eyes of all the starters that he blew saves from?? When are the Dodgers going to wake up with this guy?? Go out and trade for a real closer and we will win the World Series. If not Kenley will blow playoff and World Series games as usual. He is an average pitcher at best!!
