Although there has been no official confirmation from the Dodgers yet, their Advanced Single-A affiliate Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Angels Advanced Single-A affiliate Inland Empire 66ers are reporting (via Twitter) that Dodgers All-Star shortstop Corey Seager will make his first rehab appearance with the Quakes tonight, as they take on the 66ers in game-2 of a three-game series at San Manuel Stadium in downtown San Bernardino.
Seager will join fellow rehabbing Dodger, outfielder A.J. Pollock, who made his first rehab appearance on Thursday night in San Bernardino, going 0-for-3 at the plate while playing six innings as the Quakes center fielder.
Seager has been on the Dodgers 10-day Injured List since June 13 after suffering a strained left hamstring on June 11 in a game against (wait for it…) the Angels at Angels Stadium of Anaheim. The 25-year-old Charlotte, NC native and Dodgers first-round draft pick in 2012 out of Northwest Cabarrus High School in Concord, NC was initially expected to miss anywhere between four to six weeks. But this past week, there have been on-going reports that the 2016 National League Rookie of the Year might make it back before the All-Star break which, of course, begins after Sunday’s game against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium.
Pollock has been out since May 1 (60-day IL) with an infection in his surgically-repaired right elbow, which ultimately led to a second surgery. The 31-year-old Hebron, CT native and 2009 first-round draft pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks out of Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN hopes to return to action following the All-Star break.
For those interested, ThinkBlueLA’s Lauren Jennings will be on-hand at San Manuel Stadium to cover Seager’s and Pollock’s first and second rehab games respectively and will provide live in-game tweets. To access Lauren’s live reports, follow her on Twitter at: @baseball_lvr6.

Corey trying to rush back because he knows his spot could be in jeopardy with Chris Taylor finally back in stride and top middle INF prospect Gavin Lux just goin’ OFF down there at AAA OKC of late. I still say he’s at least another two weeks away from seeing any real big-league action again so for his own sake he better take it nice and slow this time. Another ill-fated setback out of him for pushing himself too hard and he could find himself on the trading block this winter UNLESS they finally decide to plug him in at 1B and end the Joc Pederson “experiment” there once and for all (lol). Man, I keep forgetting how truly deep this team is regarding the amount of talent they have up and down that system. And with second 1st rounder Michael Busch finally locked down the other day, competition for spots is gonna run at an all-time high real soon…
😉
Is this a joke?
I don’t think one has to worry about Seager being dealt. Gavin Lux right now is 14 for 27 at OKC and eventually, if he’s not dealt will be up here maybe at 2nd base.
I’m not joking, buddy. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about this current Dodger team over the past few years it’s how they’ve shown time and time again how seemingly “key” players like Seager, who tend to find themselves on the IL more often than they should, are not necessarily crucial to their overall success. It’s on THEM to remain healthy and productive lest they find themselves utterly replaced by an equally hungry yet less injury-prone homegrown talent like Lux (who’s NOT gonna be dealt, Paul; gonna put that out there right now) for instance. Look how quickly they broomed Yasiel Puig and Alex Wood out this past winter, team hasn’t missed a beat since! That’s the luxury that A-level organizational depth provides and the sole reason why this year’s team has the best chance at closing the deal come October.
Btw, Seager quietly became expendable the very moment Miguel Vargas and Kody Hoese recently entered the system. If you folks on here don’t know those two names yet, better start familiarizing yourselves with ’em soon. Those kids are LEGIT and are gonna move very quickly through the ranks due to their highly advanced approach to the game.
