Under the category of: ‘Now there’s something you don’t see every day,’ ThinkBlueLA has learned that 23-year-old Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers right-hander Dennis Santana was removed from his team’s game against the Round Rock Express (Astros) on Sunday afternoon after allowing 10 runs, all earned.
What’s so unusual about this, you ask?
What’s unusual is that Santana removed himself from the game, not OKC Dodgers manager Travis Barbary or pitching coach Bill Simas – and not for any apparent injury.
After allowing 10 runs on nine hits (including a two-run home run) and with two outs in the top of the fourth inning, the extremely popular and friendly San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic native (who was signed by the Dodgers as an amateur free agent on March 12, 2013) walked off the field and directly into the OKC clubhouse, where he gathered his belongings and left the ballpark without comment. And while Santana’s run and hit totals on the day most certainly were not good, Santana had struck out four of the 22 batters he had faced while walking three. He had made a total of 89 pitches – of which 61 were for strikes – when he left the field.
The Pacific Coast League – American South division last place OKC Dodgers (38-51) would go on to lose the game by a final score of 11-2, having won four straight and having allowed only six total runs over their previous three games against the Express.
Santana, as you may recall, made three relief appearance with the major league Dodgers this past April, during which he allowed four runs on six hits in his combined 5.0 innings pitched for a 7.20 ERA. He struck out six, walked four, and hit two of the 27 batters he faced.
Although there will undoubtedly be much criticism, rumors, and speculation of Santana for his highly unusual actions on Sunday, those who have come to know Santana on a more personal level know that he takes his business very serious and is often his own worst critic. As such, it is unknown if he intends to return to the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate or plans to leave the game entirely.
Regardless, ThinkBlueLA wishes Dennis and his family and friends nothing but the very best in whatever he – and they – decide to do.

Sounds like he knows he may have pitched himself right out of the Dodgers’ plans for the near future and, truth be told, I’m not sure if he’s completely over that rotator cuff injury he sustained last season. Whatever he decides to do after that total meltdown of an outing earlier today, pray he doesn’t walk away from the game entirely. At least he’s not a blatant lost cause like Yadier Alvarez turned out to be. Perhaps he simply needs to reinvent himself as a reliever for a welcome change. Still, it’s up to him at this point…
I thinkk you need to do somo research before be putting comments , Yadier alvarez has a lesson right now and gr is still putting the best of him to make up to the bigs . God bless you
I think you need to work on your grammar a bit more before shooting your mouth off around these parts, buddy (lol). Alvarez’s rep has long been well-documented, which is why I’m not entertaining thoughts of him making some sort of miraculous turnaround anytime soon. Moment his Dodger bonus baby fund runs out, he’s toast. Don’t say I didn’t tell you so.
Sad news. ☹️
Why would Manager Barbary and pitching Simas allow a highly regarded pitching prospect take that kind of beating in one inning? Are they concerned with destroying a players confidence which appears to be the case? Good grief, are these guys fit to be developing Dodgers prospects?
Bingo. I was waiting for one of yooze guys to say this.
