LADF to Host 2019 MLB RBI West Regional Tournament

Welcome event to feature Positive Coaching Alliance Triple-Impact Competitive Athlete Workshop

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) has announced it will host the 2019 MLB RBI West Regional Tournament for youth who are part of the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) programs.

The tournament will kick off with a welcome dinner today for 225 athletes at El Camp in El Segundo. Forty-five Dodgers RBI players will represent over 10,500 participants across 85 Dodgers RBI locations throughout Los Angeles. The Dodgers RBI softball and baseball regional teams will join Angels RBI, Arizona RBI, Nobu Yamauchi RBI (HI), Alaska RBI, Mexicali RBI, and Baseball Beyond Borders as they compete for a spot in the MLB RBI World Series.

The Positive Coaching Alliance, an LADF partner organization that develops athletes and people through resources for youth and high school sports coaches, parents, administrators and student-athletes, will host a Triple-Impact Competitor workshop for athletes that focuses on improvement of self, teammates, and the game as a whole.

David James, MLB Vice President of Baseball & Softball Development, will join Nichol Whiteman, LADF CEO, and Tiffany Rubin, LADF Director of Youth Programs, as they welcome seven leagues and fifteen RBI teams.

“We are proud to host such an advanced level of play for youth and witness their skills, self-confidence, and love of the sport develop,” said Rubin. “Being able to showcase three of our Dodgers Dreamfields is also special to us as it shows that we have truly invested in underserved communities and properly equipped them to support this type of competition. We are thrilled to have teams and coaches from Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, and Mexico and welcome them all to our Dodgers Dreamfields.”

The tournament begins on Friday, July 12th and teams in Softball, Junior Baseball and Senior Baseball divisions will contend for the championship games on Sunday, July 14th. Games will be played on and feature three of LADF’s 51 Dodgers Dreamfields locations: Ted Watkins Park in Watts, and Algin Sutton Recreation Center and Jesse Owens Park in South Los Angeles.
