The first-place Los Angeles Dodgers, who have the best record in baseball, return home on Friday night to begin a three-game series with the Miami Marlins (July 19-21) and then the second half of the annual Freeway Series with the Angels of Anaheim (July 23-24) during their five-game homestand.
The Marlins series will be highlighted by the Fernando Valenzuela Legends of Dodger Baseball induction ceremony and bobblehead giveaway presented by San Manuel Casino Saturday Night. Fans are encouraged to arrive early Saturday for the 5:30 p.m. ceremony, which includes appearances from Jaime Jarrín, Mike Scioscia and Mike Brito, who will help to unveil the plaque. The weekend series also includes Friday Night Fireworks presented by Denny’s and a full day of family fun on Sunday with Viva Los Dodgers presented by Coca-Cola and Spectrum prior to the game and the opportunity for kids to run the bases postgame. Viva Los Dodgers will celebrate Cuba in honor of Cuba Day Sunday at Dodger Stadium.
Following an off-day Monday, the Dodgers will host the Angels next Tuesday and Wednesday for the Freeway Series driven by Lexus. Players from LAFC will be on hand Tuesday night for photo opportunities in the Right Field Plaza as the club hosts LAFC Night, and on Wednesday, Japanese musician MIYAVI will perform pregame and tennis champion Naomi Osaka will throw a ceremonial first pitch in honor of Japan Night presented by TACOM. No disrespect intended to this years inductees.
Considering his age Maury Wills should have certainly been in this group. Maury, along with Gil Hodges, should be longtime residents of Cooperstown by now. It’s too late for Gil, but they should honor Maury when he can be there for it.
