The Dodgers have recalled right-handed pitcher Casey Sadler from Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup for assignment. Sadler will wear number 65.
Sadler, 29, joined Los Angeles on July 3 from Tampa Bay in exchange for right-handed pitcher Nathan Witt. He made two appearances for Oklahoma City prior to the promotion, firing six innings and allowing four runs. On the season, he is a combined 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA (14 ER/38.1 IP) in 13 games for Durham and Oklahoma City. Sadler is in his fourth Major League season, accumulating a 1-1 record with 4.38 ERA (19 ER/38.0 IP) in 18 career games.
Rosscup, 31, appeared in seven games for the Dodgers, tossing three innings, allowing two runs with four strikeouts. On the season, he is a combined 2-0 and a 5.00 ERA (10 ER/ 18.0 IP) with Seattle, Toronto and Los Angeles.

Let the tryouts continue!
Had a slight feeling they were gonna go with Sadler to give a recently taxed bullpen a bit of needed length, especially after that near 6-hour extra-inning win against Boston last night. He’s had a couple days’ rest after throwing 46 pitches in his previous outing down at AAA OKC so he should be good to go an inning at least in tonight’s matchup with Philly. Long as he keeps inducing ground balls out there, he’ll be solid for the Dodgers. Too bad they didn’t put Chris Taylor on the IL and bring back Will Smith on top of that. Sooner or later, it’s gonna sink in that the team’s WS hopes this year are partially tied to that kid being behind the plate come postseason time.
Good call on Sadler. I am surprised that the team has not moved Quackenbush to the 40 man and called him up. Over his last 21 appearances (22.2 IP) he has allowed only 2 earned runs for OKC; that is an incredible ERA of 0.79 —- in the PCL!
Yeah, Quackenbush has recently shown that he might still have some gas left in that pitching tank of his. Him and Chargois were the most consistent arms on that extremely volatile OKC pen all season long. Who knows, maybe the Dodgers are just biding their time with him and will eventually bring him up on the parent club roster at some point in this 2nd half.
If not for the Dodgers, then Quackenbush might net a decent, lower level prospect from another MLB team that is desperate for bullpen help — it seems as though half the teams are looking for BP help.
