It’s time to bring up Smith and demote Barnes if he has options. If not DFA or trade him. We need another starter. Kershaw at best is a number three or four starter. We know his track record in the playoffs. Maeda can not be trusted because of the long ball and is best suited for the bullpen. We are also vulnerable against left handed pitching. We need a quality right handed bat as we are too left handed. We can’t have Kiki in the everyday lineup butas a platoon player. His role is for late defensive purposes or pitch hitting. A true bench Player. Also if we get another starter, we can leave Urias in the bullpen this season and make him a starter next year. The present roster is constructed for competing in the weak National League, not against the American League power house teams. Andrew F.,are you listening? You have alot of work to do before July 31. Don’t let us down.

From the looks of things right now, Pollock is clearly blocking top OF prospect DJ Peters down at AAA OKC (his offensive turnaround which finally took root last month in AA Tulsa is NO fluke, folks!) and I’m not sure that’s a good thing at all. Only way I see Pollock sticking on this team at least for the remainder of this season is if he comes off the bench to start against lefties only and with his well-documented injury record that might very well be the best thing for him anyway. Peters’ recent emergence also makes Joc Pederson potential trade bait right now because they both hit righties exceptionally well, yet Peters has more defensive versatility by comparison (can play all three OF positions AND has a cannon for a throwing arm, much like Verdugo and Bellinger have already shown).

Looks like Friedman’s got some serious decisions to make as the trade deadline steadily approaches. And yeah, Will Smith needs to come back ASAP and take the full-time C reins from Barnes for good. Doesn’t surprise me at all that the Dodgers have been playing .500 ball ever since that kid was sent back down to OKC for the second time already this season. HE’S GOT NOTHING LEFT TO PROVE DOWN THERE ANYMORE, LOL!!!

    • If I recall the one big issue with DJ Peters is his impersonation of Billy Ashley when he was in Triple A back in the mid 90’s. meaning he strikes out a bit too much compared to the AB’s he has. In combined games with Tulsa and OKC Peters has stuck out 105 times already in only 299 total AB’s and that won’t cut it up here in MLB.

Gotta look at the numbers more closely regarding Peters in particular because it’s been a tale of two completely different halves for him so far this season. Before the month of June, he was his usual free-swinging self like you already mentioned (.236/.313/.396/.709 with a 17/74 BB/K rate in 181 ABs). HOWEVER, from June onward he’s been tearing it up at a sustained pace never before seen out of him since he entered pro-ball three years ago (.332/.445/.629/1.074 with a 22/31 BB/K rate in 118 ABs). As you can see, Peters has clearly turned a corner in his development offensively and the sample size is big enough to verify it. He’s not even the same hitter he was prior to the 2nd half of this season, much like the offensive turnaround middle INF prospect Omar Estevez had in the 2nd half of last season for High-A Rancho and wound up carrying it over into this season for AA Tulsa.

Btw, I don’t see Billy Ashley as a good MLB comp for Peters at all. Ashley was a big-league stiff who had very little going for him outside of his power. Peters is more like what Jayson Werth was back in the day (when Werth wasn’t busy rehabbing hand and wrist injuries, that is). Matter of fact, I strongly advise you and the rest on here to start tuning in to those OKC games JUST to keep track of Peters because he might be the hottest-hitting prospect in the Dodger farm system as of today…
