Although there has been no official confirmation from the Dodgers, ThinkBlueLA has learned that the Dodgers have called up utility infielder / outfielder Edwin Rios from Triple-A Oklahoma City. And while a corresponding roster move is not known at this time, following Wednesdays ugly 8-2 loss to the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks, longtime Dodgers beat writer Ken Gurnick and SportsNetLA’s Alanna Rizzo posted this on Twitter:
That being said, earlier in the week Dodgers manager Dave Roberts suggested that 36-year-old / 14-year MLB veteran catcher Russell Martin might soon see some playing time at third base, with current third baseman, 34-year-old / 11-year MLB veteran Justin Turner, possibly sliding over to second base and 28-year-old / four-year MLB veteran utility infielder Max Muncy assuming his somewhat regular position at first base. This would, of course, allow the Dodgers to return 27-year-old / six-year MLB veteran Joc Pederson back to his regular position in left field.
But here again, all of this is pure speculation; especially when you factor in that of the 77 games that Rios appeared at OKC this season, 40 of them were at third baseman, 19 at first base, seven in left field, and two in right field. In other words, and to borrow a line from an old television commercial, ‘The possibilities are endless.’
What isn’t speculation is that Rios is already on the Dodgers 40-man roster. As such, his call-up does not require a roster move other than placing someone on the Dodgers current 25-man roster on the injured list, presumably of the 10-day variety.
Thus far through the 2019 season, Rios slashed .249 / .308 / .475 / .784 with 16 doubles, one triple, 14 home runs and 48 RBI at Oklahoma City. As a third baseman the Caguas, Puerto Rico native posted a fielding percentage (FPCT) of .935 (seven errors in 108 Total Chances), as a first baseman .992 FPCT (one error in 131 TC), as a left fielder 1.000 FPCT (zero errors in 13 TC), and as a right fielder 1.000 FPCT (zero errors in one TC).
In his six games (five starts) as the Dodgers experimental first baseman, Pederson has committed two errors in 47 Total Chances (.957 FPCT), both of which occurred during Wednesday’s loss to the Dbacks.

I was taken by surprised when on the double-switch Yimi Garcia replaced Bellinger instead of Hernandez who made the last out yesterday. I was wondering if there was anything wrong with Bellinger.
Probably happened around the same time his “slump” started, too. I’d rather put him on the IL right now and not take any further chances with a potential WS title hanging in the balance this year, plus tendinitis tends to linger like hamstring-related problems often do. Calling up Rios was an interesting move because he doesn’t necessarily fit the Dodger “mold” as a player (was expecting the more deserving Zach Reks to be brought up instead with the breakout season he’s been having so far down there), but we’ll see what he does in the upcoming series against the Rockies at Coors Field. Maybe it will get his trade value up a bit for a change.
Since Rios is better suited for an AL team where he can DH,I’m thinking they might be showcasing him for a trade that’s in the works with an AL team like Cleveland. Not dure, but it’s possible.
