During his pregame media scrum on Wednesday afternoon, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on outfielder A.J. Pollock, who was placed on the Injured List on Tuesday for what was being called “an infection” in his twice surgically-repaired right elbow. Here is the information from longtime Dodgers beat reporter Ken Gurnick (via Twitter):

Dodgers aren’t gonna miss him as much as they think. His absence simply means more playing time for Verdugo and especially Taylor, who still has yet to get his bat up to speed as we’re now into May. Pray for a quick and safe recovery of Pollock’s long-troublesome elbow in the meantime…
I still don’t understand why he wasn’t replaced by a right-handed hitter.
Who would you suggest? If not currently on the 40 man roster who would you DFA to make room?
SoCal, my guess is that was the reason for bringing up Beaty, but Roberts admits it was not an ideal replacement on the roster.
FYI……..
So, the first-place Dodgers lost two of three to the last-place Giants and will find opposing teams looking high and low for left-handed pitchers to send against them, beginning this weekend when the Padres start a trio of them — Eric Lauer, Joey Lucchesi and Nick Margevicius.
