Dodgers share sneak peek of Bellinger bobblehead

Let’s face it, bobbleheads are, without question, the single most popular stadium giveaways (or SGAs, as they are known in the business) every season. And while retro bobbleheads – i.e., those of former players and legends – are always cool, the younger generation of baseball fans prefer bobbleheads of current active (younger) players.

For Dodger fans, especially younger Dodger fans, you don’t have to dig very deep to find players of whom they really want to see a bobblehead for. As such, when the Dodgers released their 2019 promotional schedule – including 12 bobblehead games – and the name Cody Bellinger was on it, pre-sale tickets soared; which, of course, is the very reason for bobblehead games.

However, with Opening Day now a mere four weeks away, the Dodgers announced on Wednesday that there are still a limited number of tickets available for Cody Bellinger Bobblehead Night on Saturday evening, April 13 at 6:10 p.m. PT, when the Dodgers host the 2018 National League Central Division champion Milwaukee Brewers. As every Dodger fan knows, it was Bellinger who hit the game-winning walk-off home run in Game-4 of the 2018 NLDS against the Brewers to punch their ticket to the 2018 National League Championship Series and ultimately to the 2018 World Series.

Oh what a night … then and on April 13,2019, when the first 40,00 fans in attendance will receive this (Kirk Gibson-esque) Cody Bellinger bobblehead.

But Belly isn’t the only popular young gun on the Dodgers bobblehead schedule in 2019. Also included are right-handed Dodgers phenom Walker Buehler (March 30), Corey Seager (May 9), and new Dodgers right-hander (and Southern California native) Joe Kelly, who was instrumental in (uggh!) beating the Dodgers in the 2018 World Series while a member of the Boston Red Sox and whom the Dodgers wisely snatched up during the off-season.

In addition to Bellinger, Buehler and Seager, the Dodgers will also honor Dodgers legend Don Newcombe with a bobblehead on April 27. As every baseball fan on the planet knows, Newcombe, who was once Jackie Robinson’s roommate, passed away on February 19 at the age of 92. In his honor, every Dodger player will wear a patch throughout the 2019 season with the number 36 on it – Newcombe’s uniform number during his seven seasons with the Brooklyn Dodgers and one with the Los Angeles Dodgers when the team moved west in 1958.

Even at 92 years old, Dodgers legend Don Newcombe attended nearly every home game at Dodger Stadium and was absolutely revered by everyone, especially the players. (Photo credit – Jon SooHoo)

Here are the 12 scheduled bobblehead games for 2019:

  • March 30 (vs. Dbacks) – Walker Buehler
  • April 13 (vs. Brewers) – Cody Bellinger
  • April 27 (vs. Pirates) – Don Newcombe
  • May 9 (vs.Nationals) – Corey Seager
  • May 30 (vs. Mets) – Steve Garvey
  • June 13 (vs. Cubs) – Joe Kelly
  • June 18 (vs. Giants) – Clayton Kershaw
  • July 20 (vs. Marlins) – Fernando Valenzuela
  • August 5 (vs. Cardinals) – TBD
  • August 22 (vs. Blue Jays) – TBD
  • September 4 (vs. Rockies) – TBD
  • September 17 (vs. Rays) – TBD

Although nothing has been said one way or the other, it is unfathomable to think that one of those TBD bobbleheads will not include extremely popular Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner and newcomer All-Star outfielder A.J. Pollock.

Fans wishing to purchase tickets for Cody Bellinger Bobblehead Night – or for any of the other Dodgers promotional games – can do so on-line via the Dodgers website or by calling the Dodger Stadium ticket office at (323) 224-1471. That being said, you might not want to wait too long to do so, as these games will sell out.
