With all of the anxious and uncomfortable buzz around Dodgers spring training camp over health concerns of Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw, Dodger fans finally got some much-needed good news – great news, actually – on Tuesday afternoon from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts regarding All-Star shortstop Corey Seager .
For the first time since camp officially opened back on February 12, the 24-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina native and Dodgers 2012 first-round draft pick faced live pitching.
“Today actually he took a few at-bats and swung the bat really well,” Roberts said. “Took some good swings against Pedro Baez in a live session – I think it was like a 10-pitch at-bat – ended up getting a base hit. So just to see the pitches and now take some swings, I thought that was a productive day for Corey.”
And he came out of it OK?
“He did, he did,” answered Roberts. “Ended up throwing after, did some conditioning. Right now it’s going as well as to be expected.”
So what’s the next step for the two-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger and former National League Rookie of the Year? According to Roberts, it will be live-game action over on the minor league side of camp.
“I would say next week I would say seems realistic … I don’t know which day,” Roberts said. “I know he’s been making throws across the diamond in recent days, so hopefully if he continues to feel well, then next week seems fair.”
Much-needed great news indeed.

March 14 against the Reds would be an ideal spring training game for Corey. Why? Already have my tickets.
#PuigGame … although that may be a stretch.
Still, you could walk down to the backfields to watch Corey play. If you do, give us the scoop!
About time, some good news.
