Dodgers reportedly in on DJ LeMahiue

Late Thursday night it was being reported that the Dodgers could be the front runners to land 30-year-old free agent DJ LeMahiue, the longtime second baseman for the Colorado Rockies.

As every Dodger fan knows, LeMahiue has been a thorn in the side of their beloved team throughout his eight-year MLB career, the first with the Chicago Cubs, who drafted the Visalia, California native in the second round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of LSU and the next seven with the division-rival Colorado Rockies … a major thorn.

Over his eight big league seasons, the two-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glover and 2016 MLB batting champion (.348) has a remarkable career slash-line of .298 / .350 / .406 for a very good OPS of .756. Against the Dodgers, the 6′-4″ / 215-pound LeMahiue has a career mark of .291 / .341 / .383 / with an OPS of .725 in 109 games played, with 17 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 39 RBI.

LeMahieu also owns a remarkable career .991 fielding percentage as a second baseman (in 892 games), a .942 FPCT. as a third baseman (41 games), and a perfect 1.000 FPCT as a first baseman (four games). He did not have a fielding opportunity (i.e., ‘chance’) in the four games he played as a shortstop.

A thorn indeed.

But Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman has some even more pressing unfinished business that he must attend to even before he deals with LeMahieu; he has yet to re-sign seven of his own arbitration-eligible players – those of shortstop Corey Seager, outfielder Joc Pederson, utility infielder / outfielders Chris Taylor and Kiké Hernandez, and pitchers Pedro Baez, Josh Fields, and Yimi Garcia – prior to Friday’s 10 a.m. (PT) deadline. That being said, there is zero reason to believe that he will not do so with all seven.

Friday morning figures to be a busy one for the Dodgers brass … and an anxious one for their fans.

Stay tuned…

I’m all for them bringing him in

      Me too Eric.

I’d happily take either LeMahiue or Marwin Gonzalez. LaMahiue is a good contact guy who doesn’t strike out a lot and hits lefties very well, heck he’s a batting champion. He’s also been very durable and plays gold glove caliber second base. What’s not to like?

      Sign him.

Dodgers need to do something. This what it feels like without a title for so long https://t.co/npe5LoBNqY

I don’t know how I feel about this guy. For the kind of ballpark he’s at he should have better numbers to show for

  4. Boxout7 says:

Well it was a nice thought while it lasted.

    Yankees To Sign DJ LeMahieu.

My dream is it’s now “Manny Time”.

Now that he’s not available, what next? Since we see that moves are made that no one expected (Russell Martin,LeMahiue Kemp etc),maybe there is a possibility of a trade for someone like Whitfield or Gennet. Maybe with Toles there are enough trade chips to get Kubler. It’s very likely Friedman is not done yet. It seems the offseason has changed from yrs past, lots gets done later.

I don’t think Dodgers will trade the prospects necessary to acquire either Merrifield or Gennett. Options? Make Taylor or Hernandez the every day second baseman and get an OF’er like Castellanos, or Harper, or Haniger, or Renfroe, or ??? Sign Marwin Gonzalez to play 2b and backup Seager at SS, move Taylor to LF and Kiké stays in the Super Utility role. Many options remain and I am confident Friedman will assemble a terrific roster for 2019 and beyond.
