Puig-for-Kluber trade rumor sparks ‘spirited’ debate

It started out innocently enough.

I was sitting in my car in the drive-thru lane at my local In-N-Out Burger (sorry, east-coasters) listening to MLB Tonight on MLB Network Radio. On the line with the show hosts was noted Fox Sports baseball expert Jon Paul Morosi who, when asked if week-old trade talks between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cleveland Indians involving soon-to-be 28-year-old (on December 7) Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and 32-year-old Indians two-time Cy Young award-winning right-hander Corey Kluber were “still ongoing,” answered “Very much so.”

As I often do whenever I hear reports on MLB Network Radio involving the Dodgers, I immediately posted this rather significant piece of information on Twitter:

You’d have thought I shot the Pope.

The ‘Likes,’ ‘Retweets,’ and more importantly the ‘Reply’ comments went through the roof. They ranged from 100 percent opposed to the trade, to neutral about it, to vehemently in favor of it: so much so that I actually had to mute several replies for excessive profanity (but I love the passion).

Opinions on the Puig-for-Kluber trade ranged from “No!” to “**** Yes!”

At one point I actually had to add a disclaimer to my original Tweet saying “Don’t shoot the messenger.” Apparently there were some who thought that I (or even JP Morosi) were the ones responsible for these trade talks which, of course, is absolutely ludicrous.

After weeding out (most) of the profanity-laden replies, it became abundantly clear (as if it needed to) that many – perhaps most – Dodger fans absolutely love Yasiel Puig and would be heartbroken to see the eccentric, fun-loving Cienfuegos, Cuba native traded. But in the same breath, many also said that the need for a top-tier starting pitcher behind staff ace Clayton Kershaw and soon-to-be staff ace Walker Buehler could be the difference in finally winning a World Series championship or not.

Rather than post some of the (many) replies to my original tweet, I encourage you to check them out here.

I might also suggest that you do so while enjoying a double-double from In-N-Out Burger (sorry, east-coasters).

Play Ball!

Add me to the NO list.
Add us Rocky Mountain fans to the can’t do In-N-Out Burger. I’m 100 miles from the nearest Chick-F-Lay (probably spelled wrong) and I don’t know where the nearest In-N-Out Burger is.

Neither here nor there on trading Puig. After the Fox idiots traded away Mike Piazza I’ve (almost) learned not to get too emotionally attached to any one player.

  3. I wouldn’t like to see Puig go. He’s one of my favorites, but if it would lead to “winning a World Series”, I think I’d get over it.

Reading this on Sunday morning in LA, I would not do Kluber for Puig deal. IF LA are goi g to trade Puig LA might think about getting back some good prospects.
