The Dodgers have placed left-hander Alex Wood on the 10-day disabled list for left adductor tendonitis and reinstated left-hander Zac Rosscup from the 10-day DL.
Wood, who was brilliant in his start on Friday night against the World Series champion Houston Astros at a sold out Dodger Stadium opposite right-hander Justin Verlander, was removed from the game as he was making his warm up tosses for the top half of the seventh inning when Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noticed the 27-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina native trying to stretch out his hamstring.
“Just knowing the history of his right hamstring and the cramping, just trying to get ahead of it,” Roberts said after the game. “Didn’t want to put him at any more risk, didn’t want to do it.”
Too late.
Amazingly, Wood was able last through six innings, allowing only two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out four and walking three, doing so on 105 pitches. In his 22 appearances thus far this season (all starts), Wood is 7-6 with a 3.58 ERA.
This is Wood’s first trip to the disabled list this season, which means that all five members of the Dodgers Opening Day starting rotation have now spent time on the DL at least once this season.
Rosscup, who was claimed off waivers from the Colorado Rockies on July 11, made four relief appearances with the Dodgers, allowing no runs or hits in his combined one inning of work. The 30-year-old Clackamas, Oregon native was placed on the 10-day DL on July 25 for a blister on his left middle finger.
