Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal, in partnership with Athletes Brand, is releasing a new, limited edition T-shirt in Dodgers blue to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Bailey, a close friend of the Grandal family, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma, prompting Yasmani and his wife Heather to seek out opportunities to show support for their family friend and others that are in similar health fights.
Starting today, the shirt, co-designed by Yasmani, will be sold during a two-week awareness campaign to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The LLS is the world’s largest health agency dedicated to curing blood cancer, and are committed to improving the quality of life of patients and their families in the process.
While the two-week awareness campaign marks the first time that Grandal has worked with the LLS, he hopes that the campaign makes a lasting impact for the estimated 1.29 million Americans that have, or are in remission from, lymphoma, leukemia and myeloma.
“We wanted to figure out a way to not only help (Bailey), but others that have been diagnosed with Leukemia or Lymphoma. It’s one of those things where you can do so much to help out a friend, but you can do a little bit more to help out not only her, but the rest of the population that is being affected by this cancer,” Grandal said.
Beginning today, the new shirt will be available for two weeks and can be ordered online via AthletesBrand.com. The tri-blend “B4B” shirt will be available in Men’s and Youth T-shirt options, as well as in a Women’s tank top option. In addition to purchasing a shirt, fans and supporters can show their support for the Grandals’ efforts by using the hashtag #B4B on social media – a nod to family friend Bailey, who has Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma and works on floor 3B with Heather. The hashtag #somedayistoday will also be used to show support for the continued efforts of the LLS.
The shirt is co-designed by Grandal and features a catcher’s mask and a subtle ode to the catcher himself.
Athletes Brand and Grandal believe that the campaign will go a long way in helping inspire others to keep fighting, and are hopeful that the campaign helps increase the number of advocates for the LLS.
“Yaz and Heather are extremely caring, conscientious people, so it is awesome to see them take initiative and show support for someone that is so close to them.” said Kyle Mauch, CEO and Founder of Athletes Brand. “The Dodgers have an extremely loyal fan base, so we are hoping to get the Society’s work in front of a large audience that may be unfamiliar with the work that is being done for the million plus Americans that are saddled with or in remission from lymphoma, leukemia or myeloma. There’s an opportunity to do a lot of good for a lot of people with this campaign by getting others to become involved.”
The shirt can be purchased from Athletes Brand beginning today, Monday, June 19, and will only be available until Monday, July 4. Through this campaign, Athletes Brand hopes to put the Society’s work in front of 20 million during the two-week sale.
