The Dodgers placed left-handed reliever Grant Dayton on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday afternoon for what is being called “a left intercostal strain” and have recalled right-hander Josh Fields from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Dayton pitched in Monday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, tossing one scoreless inning in which he issued one walk. In his seven relief appearances thus far this season, Dayton hasn’t allowed a run and limited opposing hitters to a .095 batting average (2-for-21) in his 6.1 innings of work. This will be the 29-year-old Huntsville, Alabama native’s first trip to the DL in his two-year MLB career.

Fields was optioned back to OKC on April 14 when the Dodgers activated left-handed starter Rich Hill from the 10-day disabled list, having suffered a blister on his left middle finger. But after pitching only three innings on Saturday, April 15, Hill developed yet another blister and returned to the DL a day later. Instead of re-calling Fields then, the Dodgers opted to call up utility infielder Rob Segedin to help against left-handed pitching – the Dodgers Achilles heel thus far this season.

The 30-year-old Athens, Georgia native did not allow a run in his four appearances (3.0 innings pitched) with the Dodgers before being sent back down. Ironically, Fields did not make even one pitch for the OKC Dodgers since being option back down OKC on April 14 and before returning to Los Angeles on Tuesday … if he even left LA, that is.
