The Dodgers have announced that Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball, now entering its fourth season, will host more than 500 students from 10 Glendale elementary schools and other community organizations across Glendale, AZ today through Sunday (March 2-5).
“The Los Angeles Dodgers are showcasing one of our largest community programs to provide an unforgettable Dodger experience for Glendale, Arizona youth,” said Naomi Rodriguez, vice president, Dodgers’ External Affairs and Community Relations. “Kids will be able to have fun at Camelback, but it will also be an educational experience as we share the rich history of Jackie Robinson and the Dodgers.”
Youth will participate in an all-inclusive Spring Training game day experience at Camelback Ranch. Before each game, the Dodgers will lead a Q&A session based on Jackie Robinson’s impact on baseball and American society, an educational workshop with video and group activities. Following Sunday’s game, Dodger players will invite pre-selected youth groups to a baseball clinic on the field of Camelback Ranch.
Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball will provide Glendale-area students with transportation to and from each game on customized charter buses, game-day tickets and a boxed lunch. Students will also receive a T-shirt, sunglasses, Dodger hat and each group will be recognized during the game. Boxed lunches are courtesy of Delaware North Sportservice.
On Thursday, approximately 100 youth from Coyote Ridge Elementary will attend the Jackie Robinson workshop and the 1:05 p.m. game (Dodgers vs. Indians).
Approximately 110 children from Don Mensendick and Challenger School in Glendale will participate in the Jackie Robinson workshop Friday. They will be joined by Dodger manager Dave Roberts. The group will also attend the 1:05 p.m. game (Dodgers vs. Royals). The Dodgers will also host 80 students from Heritage Elementary School in Glendale at the game.
On Sunday, nearly 100 fifth graders from Landmark Elementary will take part in the Jackie Robinson workshop and attend the 1:05 p.m. game at Camelback Ranch (Dodgers vs. Mariners). More than 100 youth from Desert Mirage Elementary School, O’Neil Community Center, Glendale Community Center, Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix (Louis & Elizabeth Sands Branch), and YMCA (Glendale/Peoria Family) will attend the game, then be invited down to the field to take place in a special baseball skills clinic led by Dodger minor leaguers.
“This is a home run for everyone involved because the Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball program gives students a fun and educational day they will surely never forget,” said Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. “Our children will have an experience that will be the envy of Dodgers fans of all ages right in their own backyard at Camelback Ranch.”
During the regular season, the Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball will invite 20,000 students to participate in an all-inclusive regular-season game experience which includes tickets, transportation to and from Dodger Stadium, food and a T-shirt. Each group is also welcomed in-game on Dodger Vision. Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball serves Los Angeles region schools, youth centers and nonprofit organizations that impact underserved communities and families.
Last year, the Dodgers inaugurated Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball during Spring Training at Camelback Ranch, hosting 150 children and their families. The Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball program in Arizona also featured a baseball clinic with Dodger players. Each Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball group is pre-selected and chosen through an application process.
