Pop-up museum to open this weekend at Dodger Stadium

After years of speculation and much to the pleasure of longtime Dodger fans – both Brooklyn and Los Angeles – the Dodgers announced on Wednesday that they will be opening a ‘pop-up museum’ in the Left Field Reserve Level team store at Dodger Stadium.

The exhibit opens on Friday, December 1 and will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday (excluding Christmas and New Year’s Day) from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm through March 5, 2017. It will feature exhibits from world-renowned sports memorabilia collector Gary Cypres and select pieces from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown.

Those familiar with Cypres will recall that he had a huge portion of his incredible Dodgers memorabilia collection on display at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library back in 2014 that was absolutely breathtaking. And though the pop-up museum won’t be nearly as comprehensive, it will include a number of items from his famous Dodgers collection. Also on display will be 51 framed photographs from the Hall of Fame’s popular Picturing America’s Pastime photo exhibit. There will also be items which feature Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Johnny Podres and Ebbets Field artifacts.

Additional items on loan from the Hall of Fame will be a baseball signed by the 1953 National League All-Star team, Shawn Green’s broken bat with which he hit his four home runs in one game on May 23, 2002 and catching equipment used by Hall of Famer Mike Piazza. Other items will include Fernando Valenzuela’s 1981 NL Cy Young award, several Vin Scully items, jerseys, game-used bats and a display honoring 2016 NL Rookie of the Year Corey Seager, 2016 NL Manager of the Year Dave Roberts and Clayton Kershaw’s 2014 MVP award and 2011, 2013 and 2014 NL Cy Young Awards.
