The Dodgers announced today the first 50,000 fans in attendance Friday, September 23 (7:10 p.m. vs. COL) will receive a Vin Scully letter of dedication to fans. Pregame ceremonies honoring Scully begin at 6:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early. Auto gates open at 4:10 p.m. and stadium gates open at 4:40 p.m. Scully’s special letter dedicated to Dodger fans will be distributed at stadium gates Friday starting at 4:40 p.m. Additionally, Friday Night Fireworks presented by Denny’s set to the top calls of Scully’s one-of-a-kind career, will take place immediately following Friday’s game.
“No tribute we could conjure could do justice to the gifts Vin has presented the Dodgers during the course of his unmatched career,” said Dodgers Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Lon Rosen. “However, we believe we have created a weekend that will wholeheartedly honor Vin and enable fans to demonstrate their appreciation for a man who has meant so much to baseball and to all of us. Vin’s putting poetry to baseball has connected him to our fans for nearly seven decades, his legacy will carry on for decades longer and will make him part of Dodger baseball forever.”
Pregame ceremonies Friday honoring Scully will begin with a video tribute narrated by Bob Costas followed by an on-field celebration of Scully’s career emceed by Dodger broadcaster Charley Steiner. Special guests scheduled to make remarks include: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrín, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, Dodger Chairman Mark Walter and Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax. Scully will be joined on field by his wife, Sandra. Scully’s tribute Friday will be broadcast live on AM 570 KLAC and televised live on KTLA, SportsNetLA and on SportsNetLA’s Spanish-language telecast.
Scully is in his 67th and final season in the broadcast booth for the Dodgers. The Hall of Famer’s 67 years of consecutive service with the Dodger organization is the longest of any sports broadcaster with one team. Scully’s final regular season home game will be Sunday, September 25 and Vin Scully Weekend kicks off Friday. The Dodgers are currently unveiling Scully’s top 20 Dodger calls which began August 13 and were selected by fan vote. The unveiling of the top two calls will take place on Vin Scully Appreciation Day Friday, September 23. The first 50,000 fans in attendance Saturday, September 24 (6:10 p.m. vs. COL) will receive a Vin Scully limited-edition commemorative coin. The 39-millimeter solid bronze Scully limited-edition commemorative coin is minted with an image of Scully with his signature greeting quote on the front and the Dodgers’ established date on the back.
The first 50,000 fans in attendance Sunday, September 25 (1:10 p.m. vs. Rockies) will receive a special commemorative edition of Dodger Insider magazine celebrating the life and career of Scully. The September 25 edition comes with the special commemorative cover and will be distributed at the ticket gates to incoming fans. Fan Appreciation Day September 25 (1:10 p.m. vs. Rockies) will also feature tributes to Scully throughout the day as part of Vin Scully Weekend. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will auction a Scully autographed baseball with all proceeds going to youth sports, specifically its Dodgers Dreamfields and Dodgers RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) programs.
