Dodgers left fielder Carl Crawford completed his rehabilitation assignment on Sunday afternoon playing a full nine innings with the Advanced Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He is expected to rejoin the Dodgers on Monday as they begin a three-game series against the Miami Marlins at Dodger Stadium.
The 34-year-old Houston, Texas native was placed on the disabled list on April 9 for back tightness.
“He was in favor of it,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said at the time. “It takes the pressure off him. It allows us some roster flexibility, with Micah here, who can play the infield, play the outfield, be a left-handed bat off the bench, pinch run. It’s a win-win for all of us.”
Crawford went 1-for-3 at the plate on Sunday with a single, a walk, a strikeout and reached base on catcher’s interference. On defense he caught the three fly balls hit to him in left field – one an excellent running catch – and made several throws to second and third base to prevent runners from advancing.
“I feel good, the body is well, the back’s feeling okay, so I’m getting ready to go back up [to Los Angeles] tomorrow,” Crawford said after the game. “I feel fine that last two days I played. Hopefully everything stays well.”
In addition to his one game with the Quakes on Sunday, Crawford played two games with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers, going 3 for 8 (.375) with two doubles, two RBIs and one strikeout. He finished his combined four rehab games going 4 for 11 (.363) with the two doubles, three RBIs, one walk and two strikeouts.
Crawford is in the sixth year of a seven-year / $142 million contract. He is owed $43.5 million through the 2017 season.
Although I am a big Kendrick fan, just think the guy is a true professional, I am happy to see Crawford back to play left against right handed pitching.
Ron, you have a typo (I believe) this is Crawford’s sixth year of a seven-year contract. I think Crawford has something left in tank, but, will be happy to see him come off the books after next season (with Ethier). Looking forward to see what FAZ does with an extra $40M per season and out of luxury tax territory.
Correct and fixed.
Now if he can only stay healthy.
