On Saturday morning, Sports Illustrated writer and legal analyst Michael McCann posted an article on SI.com detailing a class action lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against online Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) companies DraftKing and FanDuel – along with many of their business partners including Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the National Football League.
McCann’s article is extremely well researched and details arguments for and against the DFS companies on whether or not it amounts to illegal gambling.
Although a resolution to this hot issue will undoubtedly take months (or years), it brings up a burning question among baseball (and other sports) fans:

Not all fantasy gaming is gambling but this form certainly is. The bigger problem here is the opportunity for insider trading. Due to the nature of the scoring system, it has been revealed that insiders have taken the statistical information gathered from one company and play the other companies game to their own profit.
I saw that a few weeks back. As a result of that (those) incident(s), this law suit doesn’t surprise me in the least.
One of the oldest sayings in the books: “If there’s money involved, there’s cheating involved.”
Sad but true.
