Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully, who was initially slated to broadcast the first three and last three innings of each Dodgers postseason game on AM 570 LA Sports radio, underwent what was reported as “a recommended medical procedure” on Thursday morning. As a result and on the advice of his doctors, the 87-year-old broadcaster – the absolute best there’s ever been – will miss the entire postseason to rest and recover.
Although the nature of Scully’s procedure was not revealed, he is said to be resting comfortably.
On August 29 Scully announced that he would be returning for an unprecedented 67th consecutive season with the Dodgers.
On September 23 – his bobblehead night – Scully was recognized by Guinness World Records as having the longest career as a sports broadcaster for a single team for a record-setting 65 years 5 months and 22 days (as of that date).
Much to the disappointment of Dodger fans everywhere, Scully also missed the final homestand of the regular season last weekend for what was reported as a cold.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Vin for a speedy recovery.
Here’s hoping for the best of continued good health to Vin.
