On Monday evening, Time Warner Sports reported that since the merger between cable giants Time Warner Cable and Charter Cable on June 9, SportsNet LA, the Dodgers exclusive 24/7/365 regional sports network, have experienced their highest ratings to date.
According to Nadia Gonzalez, Communications Manager for Time Warner Sports, in the 30 games aired since the merger, SportsNet LA’s household ratings have increased 81% (1.14 household rating versus .63 household rating) and 77% in total viewers (80,531 versus 45,535).
Additionally, Gonzalez reported that SportsNet LA posted its single highest rated telecast in its 17-month history on June 23, 2015 when the Dodgers played the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. During that game, SNLA garnered a 1.57 household rating, topping their previous record high of 1.50 set on September 24, 2014 when the Dodgers hosted the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium; a game that also aired on KDOC-TV – an independent Southern California cable channel based out of Santa Ana. As Dodger fans may recall, KDOC aired SNLA’s coverage of the final six games of the 2014 regular season between September 22-28. SNLA also experienced near-record household ratings of 1.40 on June 30 (Dodgers at Arizona) and 1.39 on July 6 (Phillies at Dodger Stadium).
Although these numbers are encouraging and prove that fans still want their Dodgers, more than 50 percent of Los Angeles households are still without SportsNet LA and will continue to be so until the deadlock between Time Warner and DirecTV is resolved. That said, the improved ratings are good news for many Dodger fans and prove Time Warner Sports is headed in the right direction.
hmm. More people able to watch, means higher ratings…you don’t say
