The Dodgers Advanced Single-A affiliate Rancho Cucamonga Quakes announced on Thursday that they will be sending four players to the 2015 California League versus Carolina League All-Star Game to be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 7:35 pm (PT) – although sending probably isn’t the right word to use. The prestigious annual event is being held at LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga – the Quakes home ballpark.
Representing the Cal League South first-place Quakes will be first baseman Cody Bellinger, catcher Kyle Farmer and third baseman Brandon Trinkwon – all of whom will start for the Cal League team. Also named to the team is Dodgers top pitching prospect Jose De Leon; however, he will not be attending the game due to his recent promotion to the Dodgers Double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers on May 17.
Cody Bellinger, who will be 20 years old on July 13, has been nothing short of sensational with the Quakes this season. He leads the team in games (59), at-bats (223), runs (47), hits (62), home runs (12), RBIs (46), total bases (122), slugging percentage (.557) and is second in doubles (18), walks (24), and OPS (.911). The Chandler, AZ native has also been absolutely brilliant on the other side of the ball committing only 4 errors in 431 total chances at first base for an outstanding .991 fielding percentage and zero errors in 28 total chances while occasionally playing the outfield (1.000 FPCT).
Kyle Farmer is also having a great season leading the team in batting average (.337), triples (6), on-base percentage (.404), OPS (.933) and is second in runs (33), total bases (84), and slugging percentage (.528). As the Quakes catcher, the 24-year-old Atlanta, GA native has committed only one error in 266 total chances for an excellent .996 FPCT.
Although Brandon Trinkwon isn’t quite the offensive threat that Bellinger and Farmer are, he leads the Quakes in walks (28) and is second in hits (63) and stolen bases (7). The 23-year-old, who also hails from Atlanta, GA, has been invaluable to his team with his ability to play third base and shortstop but is primarily used as the Quakes second baseman.
And then there’s right-hander Jose De Leon whose presence at the Cal League All-Star Game will be sorely missed. In his seven starts with the Quakes prior to his promotion to Tulsa, the 22-year-old Isabela, Puerto Rico native posted a 4-1 record with a phenomenal 1.67 ERA. In his 37.2 innings pitched with the Quakes, he walked only eight while striking out a Cal League-leading 58. In fact, in his seven starts, he struck out 10 or more batters three times, including 12 twice. De Leon is ranked as the Dodgers number six top prospect by Baseball America and was recently ranked by ESPN’s Keith Law as the 24th top prospect in the country. Yes, he will be sorely missed on June 23.

Kyle Farmer had a 10 pitch first at bat for The Tulsa Drillers tonight reaching base on an error by the left fielder. He is the DH.
Farmer may well also miss the all-star game in the California League on June 23rd.
He indeed will. A tough loss for the Quakes.
Austin Chubb has been called up to replace Kyle on the Quakes roster but will not replace his bat.
I’m really going to miss Kyle – great kid.
