Although the results weren’t exactly what he wanted, Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen was pleased with his third rehab outing on Wednesday with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The hard-throwing right-hander made 25 pitches, 17 for strikes, hitting 92 MPH on the LoanMart Field radar gun with his fastball.
“I feel great. I’m making pitches, I’m happy about the outing,” Jansen said. “The results [don’t reflect that] but I had a good outing. It’s just about me making pitches ”
Jansen faced five batters giving up a walk, a home run, a single and struck out two (one swinging, one looking) before reaching his 25-pitch limit.
“Seven out of 10 cutters were strikes, eight out of 11 fastballs were strikes, two out of four sliders were strikes, so I was in the zone” said Jansen.
The 27-year-old Willemstad, Curacao native is scheduled to pitch again on Thursday for his first back-to-back appearances since last season.
Jansen underwent surgery on February 17 to remove a growth from his left foot and was expected to miss between eight and 12 weeks. He will come up on his 12th week next Tuesday and says that he will be ready to return to the Dodgers line-up when the team returns from their current road trip to Milwaukee and Colorado.
“My arm is in shape, my body is in shape, I’ve been doing a lot of work,” said Jansen. “I feel like I’m ready. For next week? Yeah, I’m ready to come back next week.”
