Down on the Farm – Starters toss 25 scoreless innings

Great Lakes Loons: The Dodgers first round draft selection in 2014 is starting to get more comfortable in the Midwest Class-A league. Nineteen year old Grant Holmes has given up a total of only two earned runs in his last three starts. On Friday evening he shut down the South Bend White Cubs for six innings allowing no runs while giving up two hits, striking out seven and walking two. In his last 17 innings Holmes has struck out 18.

The Loons won their third straight game holding on to 1-0 win for Holmes. Reliever Bubby Rossman followed Holmes with two innings of one hit ball while striking out five. Rossman lowered his ERA to 0.57. Joe Broussard nailed down the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Outfielder Johan Mieses scored the only run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning by first baseman Brian Wolfe.

 

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes: Right-hander Scott Barlow limited the Lake Elsinore Storm to four hits over six innings He struck out five and walked two. Barlow has now allowed two or fewer runs in six of his seven starts in 2015 and lowered his ERA to 2.17. Relievers Ramon Benjamin and Daniel Tillman followed Barlow with three scoreless innings as Tillman recorded his second save in a 2-0 win for the Quakes.

Shortstop Dillon Moyer with two hits scored on a ground out in the first inning and on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.

 

Tulsa Drillers: Right-hander Jeremy Kehrt pitched six scoreless innings against the Arkansas Travelers giving up two hits, striking out six and walking none. He was followed by a trio of relievers – Ryan Dennick, Ralston Cash and Jeremy Horst – who took the game into extra innings with four scoreless innings. Dennick gave up one but one hit. All seven of his outs were by strikeout. Unfortunately reliever Blake Smith gave up a run in the bottom of the eleventh inning as the Drillers fell 1-0 to the Travelers.

At the plate the Drillers collected only three hits.

 

Oklahoma City Dodgers: On the evening the Dodgers came away with an 8-3 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs. Starter Scott Baker went seven innings allowing only three hits while striking out six and walking none. Reliever Eury De La Rosa didn’t fare as well giving up three runs while recording only two outs. Ramon Troncoso and Chris Reed finished off the game with no further damage.

Offensively shortstop Corey Seager had three hits in five at bats. Right fielder Kyle Jensen drove in four runs on two home runs while third baseman Buck Britton added two more.

On the night the four starters racked up 24 strikeouts and walked but four while allowing only 11 hits.

Quite a night indeed.
