Although there was never really any doubt, on Friday afternoon the Dodgers named top prospects Corey Seager and Julio Urias as two of 17 minor leaguers receiving invitations to the Dodgers’ major league spring training camp in February.
Both Seager and Urias began the 2014 season with the Dodgers Advanced Single-A affiliate Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and both finished the season at Double-A Chattanooga. Along the way, the pair made stops at the California League All-Star game and appeared in the 2014 All-Stars Futures Game at Target Field in Minnesota. Seager also appeared in the prestigious Arizona Fall League for the second time in as many years.
Minor league pitchers joining Urias in big league camp will be:
- RHP Chris Anderson
- LHP Ryan Buchter
- LHP Robert Carson
- LHP David Huff
- RHP Josh Ravin
- RHP Sergio Santos
Minor league position players joining Seager are:
- INF Erisbel Arruebarrena
- INF Buck Britton
- OF Matt Carson
- IF O’Koyea Dickson
- OF Kyle Jensen
- C Chris O’Brien
- C Ali Solis
- INF Darnell Sweeney
- C Shawn Zarraga
Arruebarrena, as you may recall, was designated for assignment on December 31 to make room on the 40-man roster for newly acquired left-hander Brett Anderson. As expected, Arruebarrena’s lofty contract kept him from being claimed off of waivers and he was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City by the Dodgers earlier on Friday. This move keeps the 24-year-old Cuban defector in the Dodgers system with a very good chance of making it back up to the major league club during the 2015 campaign.
Pitchers and catchers are due in camp on Thursday, February 19, with position players due on Wednesday, February 25. The team’s first full-squad workout is scheduled for Thursday, February 26 at the Dodgers spring training facility at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona.
