It’s probably safe to say that when Sir Paul McCartney performed before a sell out crowd at Dodger Stadium last Saturday night, he had no idea that the stage on which he stood was damaging the very center field grass that Sir Yasiel Puig will be patrolling on Friday night when the Dodgers return home from their current nine-game road trip. Although Sir Paul, arguably the greatest singer / songwriter / composer of the last century, certainly gets a pass on the damage caused by the stage, the promoters of his current ‘Out There’ tour probably do not.

It seems that the stage on which Sir Paul performed unknowingly damaged the center field grass at Dodger Stadium, prompting stadium grounds crew workers to begin hurried repairs to the field on Wednesday morning for the upcoming homestand with the Brewers, Padres and Mets, which begins on Friday night.

Damaged grass is nothing new to Dodger Stadium. Over the past several years Dodger Stadium has played host to several Monster Truck and Motocross events for which the entire field had to be replaced, and always with success before opening day. And then there was the NHL’s Stadium Series hockey game between the 2014 Stanley Cup Champion L.A. Kings and Anaheim Ducks held at Dodger Stadium this past January which required significant repair work (and Sod replacement) to Blue Heaven on Earth – also successfully completed well before the April 4 home opener against the Hated Ones.

But with sod replacement being done this morning, that leaves roughly 72 hours before the Dodgers take the field on Friday when they host the Brewers at The Ravine.

In all likelihood most Dodger fans and even the Dodgers and Brewers players themselves will not even notice the sod patchwork as a result of Sir Paul’s performance last Saturday, but it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on as it could have an effect on the outcome of the next few games at Dodger Stadium.
