Seager and Urias named to 2014 Futures Game

ThinkBlueLA has learned that Dodgers top infield prospect Corey Seager and top pitching prospect Julio Urias have been selected to represent the Dodgers at the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be held on Sunday, July 13 in conjunction with Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Seager, the Dodgers 2012 first round draft pick, is on the fast track through the Dodgers farm system and is currently assigned to the Dodgers Advanced Single-A affiliate Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The 20-year-old Kannapolis, North Carolina native and brother of Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager is currently second in the Cal League in batting average (.353), second in slugging percentage (.613), second in total bases (165), eighth in RBIs (52), ninth in on-base percentage (.405) and 10th in home runs (13). He leads the league in doubles (27) and OPS (1.019).

Urias, the 17-year-old left-handed pitching phenom from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, was signed by the Dodgers on August 23, 2012 shortly after his 16th birthday. He made his pro debut on May 25, 2013 with the Dodgers Low Single-A affiliate Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League and was the youngest player in the league. Like Seager, Urias is also on the fast track through the Dodgers farm system and is also currently assigned to the Quakes. Because Urias is on a very strict innings limit, he does not have enough innings pitch to qualify for the Cal League statistics leader board. He does, however, lead all Quakes starters with his 3.35 ERA and his 1.27 WHIP. Both Seager and Urias figure to be promoted to Double-A Chattanooga within the next few weeks.
