Dodger Stadium construction update

When the Dodgers announced the second phase of their on-going stadium renovations on January 7, the plans were impressive to say the least. Not only did they call for bullpen overlooks, new team stores and new concession stands for both the Left and Right Field Levels and Pavilions, they also included full stadium access (including vertical access) for those previously sequestered in the Left Field Pavilion (finally!). (Note: A decision on full stadium access for he Right Field Pavilion has not yet been made due to its All-You-Can-Eat status).

Although construction was well underway on January 25 when Dodger Stadium hosted the 2014 NHL Stadium Series hockey game between the L.A. Kings and the Anaheim Ducks, a quick peek behind the tarps gave those with an untrained eye (such as mine) the impression that construction was moving along rather slowly, thus causing some fans (such as me) to wonder if the work would be completed in time for the first two (of three) annual Freeway Series games against the Angels scheduled for March 27 and 28.

With all evidence of the aforementioned hockey arena now completely gone (except for the beach volleyball pit), construction now appears to be in full swing with every indication that it will, in fact, be completed in time for the Freeway Series and most definitely for the April 5 home opener against the Hated Ones.

Judging by these photos sent to me on Wednesday by Tom Cervenka, a construction site inspector and lifelong Dodger fan (just like his brother), Dodger fans can rest a little easier knowing that the work will be completed as planned.

Kind of cool that our father took my brother and me to Dodger Stadium when we were kids when it first opened in 1962 and now he’s working on the renovations there and I am blessed to occasionally work in the press box.

    Thanks Dad!
