Pool-gate? I see you? Bat flips? Mickey Mouse? On-field celebrations? No, no, no… you can’t do that! If you do that, you will be punished!

…or so it seems.

For the second year in a row, the Dodgers were snubbed out of Gold Gloves during Tuesday evening’s televised Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner announcement show on ESPN2. And while it is understandable that catcher A.J. Ellis, first baseman Adrian Gonzales and (to a lesser extent) second baseman Mark Ellis were aced out by Yadier Molina, Paul Goldschmidt and Brandon Phillips respectively, it is far more difficult to grasp why third baseman Juan Uribe and pitcher Zack Greinke did not win over Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado and Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright.

Could it be that the National League coaches and managers who vote on Gold Glove winners were getting even with the Dodgers for (Lord forbid) actually having fun while playing the game? One thing is for certain – you will never get anyone to admit to this… not ever.

Did you honestly believe that the Padres coaches and manager (brawl-1), the Dbacks coaches and manager (brawl-2 and pool-gate) or the Giants coaches and manager (simply because they’re the Giants) would ever vote for a Dodger to win a Gold Glove? Not this year, that’s for sure – because everybody hates the Dodgers now that they are a genuine threat to win not just one World Championships, but several.

While there are some NL coaches and managers, especially those who only saw the Dodgers for six games all season, who only used fielding percentage to determine their Gold Glove picks, this was obviously not the same criteria used by others. Case in point: Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney had a FPCT of .993, Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis a FPCT of .989, and Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips a FPCT of .987, yet Phillips won the Gold Glove.

Another consideration is that age-old claim of East Coast bias, you know… the one that everybody on the East Coast denies exists? Well check this out – there was not one single Gold Glove winner from the AL West… not one. Still think there’s no East Coast bias?

The bottom line is that while Gold Glove (and Silver Slugger) Awards are nice to have listed on the back of your baseball card and on your Wikipedia and Baseball-Reference page, it’s the World Series trophy that really matters – and you can bet that every Dodger will gladly forego a thousand Gold Gloves for the 2014 World Series trophy that they will own a year from now.

This is the only award that really matters.
