In direct conflict with the MLB’s unwritten but long-honored ’embargo rule’ that major announcements are not to be made during the World Series (unless, of course, you are Scott Boras or Alex Rodriguez), L.A. Times Dodger beat reporter Dylan Hernandez tweeted during Game-1 of the Fall Classic that he had received word that Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten has confirmed that Don Mattingly will be returning as the Dodgers manager in 2014.
Hernandez posted a brief article on the L.A. Times blog site shortly after his tweet in which he quotes Kasten as saying he never had any doubts that Mattingly would return as his manager in 2014.
“I always thought that, absolutely. I’ve always been a big supporter of his,”quoted Hernandez.
Hernandez went on to say that Kasten is confident that Mattingly will be satisfied with his new contract when all is said and done.
“I’m anticipating a happy ending.”
Although it is unknown exactly when and where Hernandez received this information from the Dodger president, it is indeed good to know that this silly Hollywood drama is finally winding down. That being said, it is still unlikely that any official word from the Dodgers about the terms of a new contract with Mattingly will come before the conclusion of the World Series.
Simply put – there shouldn’t have been any drama.

I guess it doesn’t come as a surprise but here’s hoping they find a good bench coach that has more in his repertoire than predictable sacrifice bunting. That is all that Donnie B needs and he needs it urgently! Watching a well-managed teams (under first year managers?) like Bosox and Cardinals under makes it even more apparent.
