As was pretty much expected, former Dodgers and Mets catcher Mike Piazza ran away with the voting in the first-ever ThinkBlueLA People’s Choice Hall of Fame voting, garnering 74% of the votes cast. I mean, after all this is a Dodgers-based blog site and Piazza was the greatest offensive catcher in the history of the game. But what wasn’t expected was a dead tie for the second and final TBLA People’s Choice Hall of Fame spot with only hours remaining before Monday night’s midnight deadline, but that is exactly what happened.

As the voting deadline neared, former Tigers, Twins, Blue Jays and Indians pitcher Jack Morris, who has been on the Hall of Fame ballot for 14 years and former Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio, a first ballot candidate, were tied with 6 votes each. But when the dust had settled, a seventh and deciding vote had been cast for one of these guys, thus propelling him into the ThinkBlueLA Hall of Fame while leaving the other to try again next year. And though we may never know who cast that seventh and deciding vote (unless they choose to come forward, that is) we do know who will join Mike Piazza in the ThinkBlueLA Hall of Fame – Craig Biggio.

Granted, our voting was anything but scientific and utilized a completely different set of guidelines than those used by the Baseball Writers Association of America or even the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America, but it was nonetheless done fairly and squarely.
