Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount for his excessive arguing in the top of the second inning of his Club’s Thursday, August 16th game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
Mattingly’s suspension is to begin tonight, when the Dodgers are to continue their series at Atlanta.
Where is Campos’ suspension? The only thing excessive here is Angel Campos’ ego. MLB should hold umpires accountable for instances like this.
I honestly believe that Campos will receive some type of discipline for this incident (probably a reprimand or a fine), but unless an umpire is actually suspended (such as Balkin’ Bob Davidson was earlier this season), the disciplines are never made public.
Campos has still not been promoted to the big leagues as he’s a fill in on the crew that he works on. He’s had a few of these incidents so far. One with Clint Hurdle comes to mind. He may just not be promoted to the Major Leagues permanently. I don’t wish ill will on him, so hopefully he learns from this and doesn’t have such a quick trigger finger to eject players in the future.
We heard that the head of the crew came to both managers before the game and warned them that Campos has a short fuse and to stay away from him!
This is a bunch of crap. Why should managers have to be warned about umpires before games – they’ve got enough on their minds to deal with to have to worry about some emotionally unstable umpire. I hope the MLB gets wind of this.
Unlike Evan, I hope this idiot gets canned and is never allowed into an MLB ballpark again without a ticket. Who the hell does he think he is? There is absolutely no excuse for this.
