The Dodgers have recalled outfielder/infielder Alex Castellanos and optioned right-handed pitcher Rubby De La Rosa to Triple-A Albuquerque. De La Rosa appeared in one game for the Dodgers, allowing two runs in 0.2 innings Wednesday night. The appearance was De La Rosa’s first in the Major Leagues since July 31, 2011. The native of the Dominican Republic underwent Tommy John surgery on Aug. 9, 2011.
Castellanos has batted .347 (111-for-320) with 17 homers, 52 RBI, 25 doubles and seven triples in 86 games for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. The Miami native was acquired from the Cardinals at the 2011 trade deadline and made his Major League debut on May 31, 2012. Castellanos hit .143 (3-for-21) in 11 games for the Dodgers before being optioned back to Albuquerque on June 11.
Look for Ethier to get a few days off to allow his blister to heal. I’m actually better with Alex being called up over VanSlyke. Why not Jerry Sands? – because he’s going to Bean Town.
De La Rosa is also off to Boston!
