With Brandon League and Shane Victorino on flights to Los Angeles as I write this, the Dodgers need to open up a spot on their 25-man roster for one of them. Obviously, Josh Lindblom’s spot will be filled by either League or Victorino, but what about the other spot on the 25-man roster?
This isn’t simply a matter of sending someone (like Shawn Tolleson) back down to Triple-A to make room on the 25-man roster, as the Dodgers still need a spot on the 40-man roster for either League or Victorino (whichever one not taking Lindblom’s spot). Keep in mind that Hanley Ramirez took Todd Coffey’s 40-man roster spot went Todd was placed on the 60-day DL (and Scott Elbert’s spot on the 25-man roster when Scott was placed on the 15-day DL), and that none of the Minor Leaguers traded by the Dodgers were on the 40-man roster; so a corresponding move needs to be made – and soon.
The simplest solution, of course, would be for the Dodgers to DFA Juan Uribe, as this would open up a spot on both rosters; not to mention that it would rid the Dodgers of a useless Juan Uribe.
When I asked Don Mattingly if the Dodgers were still status quo with Uribe, he pretty much gave a non-answer “Well… kind of. With Hanley at third, (it) limits my opportunity to be able to pinch hit Juan and my chance of using him.” Now, I’m no mind reader, but this certainly sounds like Mattingly is (finally) acknowledging that there is simply no place for Uribe, regardless of how much money he is still owed.
What is also certain is that we will all know for sure within the next 24 hours.
Stay tuned…
One can only hope !!
I think the best thing was that we didn’t lose one position player on the 25 man roster and just two pitchers, Eovaldi & Lindblom, which couldn’t be helped.
That is the only logical answer. All I know is we have now become one of the fastest teams out there. With the like’s of Gordon, Kemp, Ramirez, Victorino. Just have to get em on and watch em go! This line up will eat up lots of pitchers out there. This is going to be a fun two months of ball!!! What a great feeling. THE DODGERS ARE NOW LEGIT.
Michael Antonini has been Designated For Assignment with the “Topes. That opens up a spot on the 40 man roster.
I also think that this should be it for Uribe. Between Hanley Ramirez, Luis Cruz, and when Dee Gordon comes back, there just won’t be any place for Juan Uribe to play. I think new management will DFA him, something McCourt wouldn’t do. That’s the best part of all these trade, the Dodgers are now willing to spend money to improve the team.
I suppose Shawn Tolleson will be optioned. He has been used heavily for the past two nights so unfortunately he seems to be the likely candidate.
Abreu!!! And somehow Uribe remains. The only thing I can think of is that they hope to trade him and feel he has more trade value that Abreu.
