New Dodger co-owner Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Dodger center fielder Matt Kemp are featured on the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated magazine, which is on sale now at newsstands. The cover photo shows the pair standing behind home plate at Dodger Stadium with Kemp palming a basketball and a title reading “Magic Johnson and Matt Kemp are making L.A. Dodgertown again.” The issue also includes stories about the Lakers, Clippers and Kings all making their respective playoffs at Staples Center (although the Lakers and Clippers have since been eliminated).
Even if you are not into basketball or hockey, you might want to pick up this issue of SI, as it will undoubtedly become a collector’s item.
I picked up a copy this afternoon (well, two actually – one of which I hope to get signed by Magic Johnson and Matt Kemp) and the article is GREAT! I have never been much of a magazine guy (too much clutter) but figured this was a “must have” and it truly is. That said, the last SI magazine I bought (a swimsuit edition, of course) was like two bucks… well not anymore – damn things cost $5 now – but it was money well spent.
It really is better times at Dodgertown !!
I can’t remember the last time a purchased a copy of Sports Illustrated, probably when the last time the Dodgers won the World Series in ’88. But this looks like a “must buy” for me.
A couple of power forwards locked in an intense game of Baseketball?
