by Ron Cervenka It is a well know fact that Hall of Fame Dodger broadcaster Vin Scully has adamantly opposed having a bobble head in his likeness released, this in spite of the cries from thousands of fans demanding one for decades. In fact, during Scully’s incredible 63-year career with the organization, the humble legend has declined numerous offers by the Dodgers to have one made. Whether he finally agreed to allow it to happen or whether the Dodgers finally said “Tough, we’re doing it anyway” (out of total respect and admiration for the Dodger icon) remains unknow, but it is finally going to happen on Thursday night, August 30 when the Dodgers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at 7:10 p.m. The first 50,000 ticketed fans in attendance will receive one of these (undoubtedly) once-in-a-lifetime precious gems. One thing is certain – they will be among the most popular and sought after bobble heads in history.

Fans can purchase tickets to this game through a season ticket plan or the 10-game Flex Plan with tickets starting at $11 by visiting dodgers.com/promotions. Individual tickets will not be made available to the general public.

As you know, I generally don’t go much for bobble heads but this one’s a little different, it’s of the announcer. I don’t know if he’s the first one to be honored with a bobble head, so at least to me it’s unique. The likeness is pretty good too.
I’m definitely going to buy one on ebay. I have a Bob Murphy/Ralph Kiner bobblehead. So Vin is not the first announcer to get one.

Vin is one of the main factors in which I became a Dodgers fan. To me he is the Dodgers organization. One cannot say the word “Dodgers” without thinking of Vin Scully. I absolutely love everything this gentleman represents and stands for. From his eloquent way of calling a ball game, to the way he speaks of his fellow human being in general. I feel so fortunate to be around as a fan to be able to listen to him call a ball game. Imagine the future generations of Dodger fans who will only get to be told of how great this guy was at calling a ball game, and the fact they will probably never get to hear anybody like him in their lifetime. Any one of those 50,000 that will get one of these bobble heads to hold in their hands, is very lucky indeed. I almost view it like winning a special grand prize of sorts! It has crossed my mind to buy a ten game flex pack to get one, but I would not be able to make it to the game to actually get it. I can’t help but wonder if it would actually be cheaper for me to go to the game, rather than buy one on eBay!? Well I guess I’ll never know.
