The Los Angeles Dodgers today designated RHP Mike MacDougal for assignment while Major League Baseball reinstated Ronald Belisario from the Restricted List.
Belisario, 29, has made four appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque and Single-A Rancho Cucamonga this season, including tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in his two appearances with the Isotopes. Belisario last pitched yesterday and fired a scoreless frame against Oklahoma City (Astros).
MacDougal was in his second year with Los Angeles after re-signing as a free agent this past off-season. The 35-year-old posted a 7.94 ERA in seven appearances this season.
The DFA with MacDougal was expected. Belisario pitched better ashe went along with his minor league appearances. Hopefully he will be able to recapture some of his past glory.
I kind of saw this coming. I, for one, thought that MacDougal did a better job than most seemed to give him credit for, last year, but this year, possibly do to a flu, I don’t know but he really didn’t look good at all.
MacDougal allowed more inherited runners to score than any other Dodger reliever last season, which is why his low ERA was misleading – they scored but weren’t charged to him.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mac in Albuquerque in 10 days (if nobody else signs him, of course).
This is great news!
