Dodger players and alumni will join Bank of America to help Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles rehabilitate a dilapidated home in Lynwood on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. This will be the Dodgers’ second Habitat build this year, as Dodger players helped rebuild a different Lynwood home as part of the team’s 2012 Community Caravan.
Current Dodgers Matt Kemp, Clayton Kershaw and Josh Lindblom, and Dodger alumni Maury Wills will be on hand for the event, as will Dodger wives Ellen Kershaw and Aurielle Lindblom.
The event will take place on Tuesday, April 24 beginning at 10 AM at 11839 Wright Road, Lynwood, CA 90262.
Habitat for Humanity’s Home Rehabilitation program acquires foreclosed properties and renovates the homes with the help of volunteers. Renovations to the exterior and interior are made using environmentally sustainable methods and products. More than 50 Bank of America and Dodger volunteers will work on the interior of a home, stripping walls down to the studs in preparation for additional work. A typical home rehab takes between four to six weeks to complete, when it is sold to low-income individuals and families interested in becoming homeowners.
Tuesday’s event with the Dodgers and Habitat for Humanity is part of Bank of America’s national commitment to invest $15 million to housing programs across the country, and the bank’s Global Service Month, a concentrated effort of employee-led community service throughout the month of April. The bank’s yearlong volunteerism initiatives strengthen the economic and social health of communities around the world and resulted in a record 1.5 million hours of volunteer service by employees in 2011.
